Itinerary 6
Il Ghisallo
Departure/arrival: Lago di Pusiano (comune di Merone) / Bellagio
Length of the route: 36,7 Km
Route time – without stops: 3 h
Difficulty:
the easiest part is the stretch between Merone and Canzo, while the rest of the itinerary from Canzo-Bellagio, is of moderate difficulty. Particularly recommended: For fit and sporty people and those who are passionate about cycling on roads.
The course represents a sort of ‘hard stretch’ for those who love cycling, as is the visit to the sanctuary of the Madonna of Ghisallo, the patron of cyclists since 1949, a necessary moment of homage, for all cyclists. The church is now a small thematic museum, conserving inside historical bicycles from races as well as various historical remains. Even if the route is reserved almost exclusively for sporting use, a public bus service guarantees that everyone can reach the church-museum. The itinerary unwinds through the so called Triangolo lariano, touching the areas of Erba, Eupilio, Canzo, Lasnigo, Barni and Magreglio. From here all downhill, the course reaches the promontory of Bellagio, a lakeside town of great tourist fame, characterised by the grand 18th, 19th century Villas, with extensive gardens, that are situated in places of great scenic interest
